'Toshiba TV' - June 2005

During breakfast yesterday I put on the TV like usual.  The screen partially went flickery for a few minutes then went off altogether.  I think the set was probably over a year old.  I can't find the receipt to be sure but I don't think I've any guarantee to claim on.  It was from one of those Catalogue reselling shops so it might not have had a full year's guarantee anyway.  Still, it was a Toshiba, so that wasn't very impressive.

As usual - and having nothing much to lose - I thought I'd ignore the sticker on the back of the set that said 'no user serviceable parts' and opened it up on the kitchen table.  I guess they were right, I couldn't find anything wrong with it that I could service.  Definitely no loose or broken wires that I might have been able to solder together.   Unfortunately I couldn't really get a good look at the circuit board as it was hooked up with several short wires to the tube and the speakers so I could only pull it a few inches out from it's position and view it upside down.

There is a big window by the table but unfortuanately it worked out that the light fell on the back of the components and I couldn't see much except in silhouette as the light gleamed through the circuit board.  Before screwing it back together I fetched my camera and squeezed it inside to get some shots.  If these electronic boards look like environments then this one has a lot of parks and green spaces and lacks the regularity and deliniation of some other board-scapes.  It seemed less developed and was a kind of chilled city, one I'd prefer to live in if I was an electron passing through.
